Cory
- President & Certified Personal Trainer
- B.S. Sports Medicine - Over 15 years of personal training experience
Cory
started his love of fitness when he was only 15 years old. His parents
bought him a weight set and he started using those weights in the
family basement in upstate New York. Through trial and error
he learned how to use the weights
and he saw results from his long hours in the basement. When
it was time to go to college, Cory knew his passion was fitness
and helping people get fit. He started college at Radford in
southeast Virginia with a major in Sports Medicine. After graduation,
Cory started an internship at The Fitness Connection, a wellness center
owned and operated by Montgomery Regional Hospital in Virginia.
After his internship, he was hired by The Fitness Connection to start
and manage a personal training program for the facility. It
was during this position that he received his certification by the
American Council on Exercise (ACE).
In 1993, Cory moved to North Carolina to start working with Phase II as a personal trainer. For seven years, Cory helped clients young and old to reach fitness goals. Cory's passion, knowledge and commitment to his clients made him one of the most successful and respected personal trainers in the area. In 2000, Cory started
thinking about opening a Phase II of his own and in just a few months
he found the perfect site for his business. Cory came across
a new shopping center being built in Cary, named Millpond Village.
Over the next year, Cory and Melissa started the American dream of
opening their own small business.

Melissa
- Vice
President, Operations
Melissa
had a different passion when she was growing up in Boston, Massachusetts,
she had a love of animals. Throughout her childhood she brought home
every hurt, homeless or just lost animal. In her senior year of high
school, she met and became friends with the school nurse. It was during
her senior year, that Melissa learned how a nurse could help people.
Melissa started college at the University of Massachusetts, majoring
in nursing. After graduation, she worked for a short time in a state
hospital in the emergency department. Melissa moved to North Carolina
in 1995 to be with her mother who was fighting breast cancer. She
continued her nursing career at Wake Medical working weekends and
caring for her mother during the week. Over the next few years, Melissa
injured her back and eventually had to undergo back surgery. After
recovering, Melissa tried to go back to nursing in a management position
but she felt it was a waste to be stuck behind a desk and not working
with the patients. It was after that realization and her mother's
death that Melissa left nursing and started working as a recruiter
finding nurses and technical candidates. It was during this time that
a friend set Melissa up on a blind date.
On that blind date, Melissa met Cory and they have been together ever
since 1998. A few months before the opening their own business,
Melissa got laid off from her recruiter position with a dot.com company.
Cory and Melissa felt that it was a perfect time to be laid off! Melissa
jumped into the business. It was a perfect blend: Cory was the expert
on fitness and personal training facilities and Melissa had a marketing,
sales, and medical background. Cory and Melissa love working together
and enjoy helping their clients reach their fitness goals!
